A few kilometres east of Quaqtaq, in the Ungava Bay, sits imposingly the Akpatok Island. Its steep cliffs almost make it a fortress, but its raised beach makes it worth braving the fortifications. From your viewpoint, you can easily admire polar bears and walruses that bask under the sun nearby on ice floe floating in the Hudson Bay. Besides, walrus and polar bear hunters come here to hunt their prey. In summer, the cliffs transform into a nestling site for some migratory birds like thick-billed murre. Have a nice visit.
