In addition to being the smallest village of the Nunavik region with its 15 km2, the Nordic village of Kuujjuarapik is also the southernmost one. It is inhabited by two communities since it borders the Whapmagoostui Cree community and has two other official names: Poste-de-la-Baleine and Great Whale River. In 1820, the Hudson Bay Company opened a fur trading post and in 1930, after the First World War, Americans built a military base and an airport. Americans have transferred everything to the Canadian government in 1948. From this village, you can access beautiful islands and admire a rich collection of Inuit paintings and sculptures.
