The 626 km2 of Salluit are located south of the Hudson Strait, in the narrow but beautiful Salluit Fjord. Here, wildlife abounds, just like aquatic plants. The coast abounds with soft shell clams and mussels! The some 1,100 inhabitants live off hunting and fishing, but also off the mine Purtuniq, near Deception Bay. The meaning of the name of this village reminds that in the past, fauna and flora were rare. And since people were underfed, they were thin, even skinny.
